A Book About Starting Where You Are
Rudy Shoushany’s book offers an honest and motivating conversation about mindset, action and the possibilities that emerge when we stop waiting for the perfect moment.
Imagine arriving at a weekend resort after an exhausting week. You are excited to finally be away, but your mind is still occupied by unanswered emails, unfinished work and the mixture of ambition, anxiety and uncertainty that follows you even when you are trying to switch off.
During the weekend, you meet an interesting group of people. One of them has already built something similar to what you hope to achieve one day. A casual conversation gradually turns into stories, honest advice and lessons shaped by experience. This person understands the struggles you are facing and reassures you that they are neither unusual nor impossible to overcome. More importantly, they remind you that success remains possible.

By the end of the conversation, your circumstances may not have changed, but your perspective has. You feel understood, encouraged and a little more certain that you should keep going.
That is what reading Ruling the World in My Pyjamas often feels like.
The book carries the same playful, unconventional and intriguing energy as its title. It feels less like a formal lesson and more like an honest conversation with someone who has already travelled part of the road you are trying to navigate. Through real experiences, practical wisdom and personal stories, Rudy Shoushany offers the kind of encouragement that can strengthen your mindset and help turn possibility into action.

01 More than an entrepreneur’s book
Although the book describes itself as an entrepreneur’s guide, I do not believe its value is limited to entrepreneurs.
Whether you are building a company, working as an employee, developing a freelance career or balancing employment with a side business, mindset remains central to how you navigate professional life. Each path comes with its own challenges, but many of the doubts, setbacks and decisions we face are surprisingly similar.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, the book addresses many of the experiences they are likely to encounter, from defining a vision and overcoming fear to building relationships, adapting to change and taking action.
Employees can also find value in its lessons about growth, resilience and personal direction. Employment remains an important part of many people’s lives and, for most, their primary source of income. Choosing that path does not remove the need to develop, make difficult decisions or navigate uncertainty.
For people like me, who operate somewhere between employment and entrepreneurship, the book offers valuable reminders about balancing both worlds without losing sight of where you want to go.
Many of its lessons can also extend beyond professional life, because the mindset we bring to our careers often shapes the way we respond to challenges elsewhere.
02 The person behind the lessons
My experience of the book is naturally influenced by the fact that I know Rudy personally.
I worked with him during the pandemic, when many of the brands, platforms and activities associated with him today were still being developed. Seeing how far he has come, while still recognising the same determination and character I encountered then, made parts of the book especially meaningful.
Rudy practises what he speaks about. His advice to new and aspiring entrepreneurs feels authentic because I have seen elements of that mindset reflected in the way he works, builds relationships and approaches his projects.
Reading his story again, particularly the sections in which he shares wisdom with upcoming entrepreneurs, felt less like reading abstract motivational advice and more like hearing from someone who has lived through the challenges he describes.
That authenticity is one of the book’s greatest strengths.
That authenticity is one of the book’s greatest strengths.
03 A book to read and revisit
I initially found myself reading the book almost in one sitting. It is a smooth and accessible read, well suited to an afternoon coffee when half the day has already passed and you need something to pull you back towards the right mindset.
Later, however, I began moving between chapters and returning to particular sections.
The opening chapters provide helpful context about Rudy and the journey behind the book, especially for readers who may not already be familiar with his work or online content. After that, the structure allows you to read more freely.

You can move between chapters about vision, fear, innovation, branding, networking, artificial intelligence or taking action, depending on what feels most relevant at that moment.
It can be read from beginning to end, but it can also remain nearby as a small book you open whenever you need a useful lesson, a reminder or a change in perspective. Reading one chapter a day may be enough to restore some motivation and help you approach the rest of the day differently
04 Companies Cannot Wait for Certainty
Readers should not approach Ruling the World in My Pyjamas expecting a detailed methodology that will reorganise every aspect of their professional lives.
If you are looking for a highly structured, step-by-step business system, a book such as The Lean Startup may be closer to what you need.
Rudy’s book offers something different.
It feels like having an experienced mentor listen to what you are going through, share what worked and what did not, and give you a reassuring pat on the shoulder before telling you to continue.
It does not promise that the road will be easy. It reminds you that you are not the only person dealing with fear, uncertainty, disruption or self-doubt. Others have experienced similar challenges, found ways through them and built something meaningful on the other side.
The book is ultimately about possibilities and about creating the mindset and environment that allow those possibilities to become real.
05 Simple does not mean easy
Mel Robbins has spoken about the idea that getting what you want can be simple without necessarily being easy. That distinction reflects much of what this book communicates.
The lessons are usually clear and easy to grasp. The book does not try to frighten readers or make entrepreneurship appear more complicated than it needs to be. Applying those lessons, however, remains the reader’s responsibility.
For me, the most powerful parts concern taking action and transforming your life.
Rudy writes about the difficult experiences and costly wake-up calls that pushed him to reassess a career in which he was already deeply established. Making a major change around the pandemic was not presented as an effortless leap. It required him to respond to disruption, reconsider what was possible and take responsibility for what came next.
This is where the book moves beyond simple motivation. It reminds us that transformation often begins before we feel completely prepared. Sometimes it takes a destabilising experience to make us recognise that remaining where we are may be more difficult than moving forward.
06 Start in your pyjamas
By the end of the book, I no longer interpreted its title as being about comfort or working remotely.
To me, Ruling the World in My Pyjamas means starting from where you are.
You do not have to wait until every condition is perfect. You do not need to become an entirely different person before taking the first step. You may be uncertain, tired or still wearing your pyjamas, but you can begin.
Someone, somewhere, has probably already pursued something similar to what you are dreaming about today. Many of those people have shared their journeys, and this book is another opportunity to learn from someone who decided to act, change direction and create new possibilities.

It is brief, approachable and filled with the kind of guidance that can restore motivation without overwhelming the reader. More than anything, it reminds you that the rules are not always fixed. Sometimes, you can challenge them, reshape them and create a few of your own.
Wherever you are starting from, choose your next move wisely, keep going and remember that the right moment may be closer than you think.
